Detroit Tigers Information
The Detroit Tigers is one of the American professional baseball teams that is based in Detroit, Michigan. The Tigers team was founded as a member of the Western League (minor league) in 1894. The team competes as a member of the American League (AL) Central division in Major League Baseball (MLB). It is one of the eight charter franchises of the American League. The Tigers is the only team of Western League that is still in its home city. It is also famous for being the oldest continuous one-name along with one city American League’s franchise.
The Detroit Tigers have the following nicknames; The Motor City Kitties, The Tigers, and The Bengals. The team plays its home games in Comerica Park (Downtown Detroit), whereas the former home venues were Tiger Stadium (1912–1999), Burns Park (1901–1902), Bennett Park (1896–1911), and Boulevard Park (1894–1895). The official mascot of the Tigers is Paws, an anthropomorphic Bengal tiger. The team chose orange, white, and midnight navy blue colors for its uniforms.
The Detroit Tigers is the winner of four World Series championships (1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984), four AL Central division championships (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014), seven Division titles (3 for East and 4 for Central), eleven AL Pennants, and 1 Wild card berth (2006). The team has several inductees into the Baseball Hall of Famers such as Sparky Anderson, Hank Greenberg, Hughie Jennings, Hal Newhouser, Ty Cobb, and many more.
Ford C. Frick Award recipient among the Detroit Tigers team members is only Ernie Harwell. The team won countless awards and honors to dare.
