Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix Information
Since 1908, when it was still known as the American Grand Prize, the United States Grand Prix has been an intermittently hosted motor racing event. A few years later, the Grand Prix was included in Formula One's world championship. After competing in the Gordon Bennett Cup and Circuit des Ardennes, William Kissam Vanderbilt was inspired to start a series of road events in the United States to promote American motorsports abroad.
Soon after its inception, the Vanderbilt Cup attracted rivals worldwide to New York's Long Island. Crowd control issues, which included several fatalities and injuries to spectators, ultimately led to the race's cancellation in 1907. The American Automobile Association still needs to implement the revised Grand Prix rules developed by the Association Internationale des Automobiles Clubs Reconnus upon its return to competition in 1908. (AIACR).
That's why the rival Automobile Club of America, a fan club with deep connections to Europe, decided to host the American Grand Prize, a competition based on the rules of the Grand Prix. The Savannah Automobile Club in Georgia was awarded the rights to host the event after their March 18th and 19th stock car events were deemed a resounding success. Las Vegas is the newest addition to the US Grand Prix circuit.
