Jacksonville Icemen Information
The Jacksonville Icemen is an ice hockey team from the ECHL in Jacksonville, Florida. The Icemen were previously known as the Muskegon Fury from 1992-2008, Muskegon Lumberjacks from 2008-2010, and the Evansville Icemen from 2010 to 2016. The owner of Evansville IceMen, Ron Geary, wrote a letter to the fans on November 16, 2015, that the team‘s operating lease with the Ford Center was ending after the season of 2015-16.
The City of Evansville announced on February 8, 2016, that it had secured an expansion team in the Southern Professional Hockey League that will play at the Ford Center. On March 14, 2016, an announcement was made that the IceMen and ECHL franchise’s relocation had been approved. In January 2017, a part of the franchise was sold by Geary to an ownership group based out of Jacksonville, Florida. The relocation was approved on February 8, 2017, by the ECHL, while Geary remained the primary owner.
Jason Christie was hired as the first head coach for the team with affiliation to Winnipeg Jets (NHL) and the Manitoba Moose (AHL). The team qualified for the ECHL playoffs in its second season in 2012.
