About Las Vegas Bowl

Each year in the Las Vegas area, college football players from NCAA Division I FBS teams compete in the Las Vegas Bowl. The bowl has been going strong since its 1992 debut. In 2021, it relocated to Paradise, Nevada's Allegiant Stadium, which has a capacity of 65,000 spectators, from Whitney, Nevada's Sam Boyd Stadium, which had a capacity of 40,000. It is ESPN Events that owns and operates the bowl. The game was first played in Fresno, California, from 1981 to 1991 as the California Raisin Bowl.  In 1992, Fresno State transferred to the Western Athletic Conference from the Big West. The Big West and the MAC withdrew from Fresno and started looking for a replacement venue for their conference finals. In Las Vegas, officials discovered it while searching for a method to increase hotel income. The Christmas season was a sluggish time for the casinos and hotels in Las Vegas. 1992 NFL games were held in Las Vegas for the first time. The 2020 game was postponed to December 2, 2020, because of the epidemic. Its SEC and Pac-12 tie-ins were moved to the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas, which ESPN Events owns. Since 2013, ABC has been airing the Las Vegas Bowl; the network first carried the game in 2001. Alternate game broadcasts aired on ESPN or ESPN2.
