The New England Patriots are a professional American football team. It is based in the Greater Boston area and was founded on November 16, 1959. The team played its first season in the year 1960. The Patriots compete as the East Division member of AFC in the National Football League. The home field for the team is Gillette Stadium, and it is headquartered in the same location. Some of the former home fields for the Patriots are Nickerson Field (1960–1962), Fenway Park (1963–1968), Alumni Stadium (1969), Harvard Stadium (1970), and Foxboro Stadium (1971–2001). The Patriots were previously known as Boston Patriots and are known by the nickname The Pats.
The Patriots are under the ownership of Robert Kraft, who is also the CEO and chairman of the team. Jonathan Kraft is the president, while Bill Belichick is the general manager of the team. The team won six League Championships; Super Bowl championships (2001 (XXXVI), 2003 (XXXVIII), 2004 (XXXIX), 2014 (XLIX), 2016 (LI), 2018 (LIII)). It also won eleven Conference Championships (AFC: 1985, 1996, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) and twenty-two Division Championships. The team appeared twenty-seven times in the playoffs, once in AFL and the rest in NFL.
The official uniform color of the Patriots is nautical blue, red, new century silver, and white. The official mascot of the team is Pat Patriot, who is a revolutionary minuteman wearing a Patriots home jersey. The club also has a cheerleading squad known as the New England Patriots Cheerleaders (NEPC). The team also employs a corps known as the End Zone Militia. It is a group of American Revolutionary War reenactors.
