In Ohio, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game is played every year on the weekend of the induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame. Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium is a component of the Hall of Fame Village and is next to the Hall of Fame itself, where the game will be held. When construction on the Hall of Fame began in 1962, the inaugural game was held that year.
It is customary for the league to choose the two teams that will participate in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game before the rest of the preseason schedule is released. The announcement of the participants coincides with the week of the Super Bowl and typically follows the announcement of new Hall of Fame members. In 1998, as a trial run for the eventual transfer to Monday night, the game was included in the MNF package and played on Saturday.
