NHL All Star Game Information
Every year during the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL), the league's best players get together to compete in an exhibition ice hockey game known as the NHL All-Star Game. There are four people on each squad. The money made at the game goes into the players' pension fund.
The National Hockey League (NHL) announced on November 18, 2015, that beginning with the 2016 All-Star Contest, the game would be played as a single-elimination tournament between four All-Star teams based on the league's four divisions. Each of the three games in the event will be played using a 3-on-3 formation, with each half lasting 10 minutes. A three-round shootout, plus further rounds as needed, will be used to select the victor if the score is still tied after 20 minutes; regular overtime will not be played.
In 2016, one semifinal featured the Atlantic Division All-Stars versus the Metropolitan Division All-Stars, and the other featured the Central Division All-Stars versus the Pacific Division All-Stars. The All-Star Game Final will feature the victor of these two contests. Since 2017, there has been a modest adjustment to the format, with the division winners from the previous night's NHL All-Star Skills Competition getting to select their semifinal opponents.
