The San Diego Padres, also known as The Friars and The Pads, are an American professional baseball team based in San Diego, California. They are a member of the National League’s (NL) West division. The team plays its home games at Petco Park. After winning an expansion team award in 1969, the team adopted the city’s Pacific Coast League team's name, the Padres.
In 1969, the franchise came into existence along with three other expansion teams, including Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Kansas City Royals. San Diego Padres are the first national sports team that received an annual military appreciation event.
The San Diego Padres’ uniform color theme is blue and white. Currently, the Swinging Friar is the official mascot of the team. Since 1999, 14 players have been inducted into the San Diego Padres Hall of Fame, including Dave Winfield, Buzzie Bavasi, Ted Williams, Ted Williams, Dick Williams, Nate Colbert, Garry Templeton, Jerry Coleman, Kevin Towers, Tony Gwynn, Benito Santiago, Trevor Hoffman, Jack McKeon, and Ray Kroc.
The Best San Diego Padres players of all time are Randy Jones, Tony Gwynn, Jake Peavy, Adrian Gonzalez, Garry Templeton, Steve Finley, Roberto Alomar, Terry Kennedy, and Andy Benes. Until 1978, the Padres have not achieved any first winning season. The team surprisingly reached its first-ever postseason appearance in 1984 and won the National League Championship.
The team has won two NL pennants in 1984 and 1998, whereas five National League West titles in 1984, 1996, 1998, 2005, and 2006. The San Diego Padres have had 14 winning seasons in the history of the franchise.
