About Cirque du Soleil Alegria

Alegría is one of the most popular Cirque Du Soleil touring productions. Created by director Franco Dragone and Gilles Ste-Croix (director of creation) in 1994, Alegría has had over 5,000 performances attended by more than 14 million spectators across 250 cities across the globe. Alegría first started as a touring show, but in 2009, during its tours in North America. The show was turned into an arena format, hosted in cities that were previously unavailable to the tours. The name ‘Alegría’ is a Spanish word for ‘joy.’ The music by René Dupéré featured is a blend of Mediterranean, African, Spanish, and French influences. The stage and props feature a lot of gothic arches and angular designs. The performances also feature Dominique Lemieux’s costumes depicting a baroque aesthetic of decadence and ornamentation. Earlier this year, due to popular demands from fans, the legendary Alegría started showing again, but this time with a revamped storyline.
