Russell Dominic Peters (September 29, 1970) is a Canadian actor and a stand-up comedian. He is from Toronto, Ontario. Peters attended the Chinguacousy Secondary School and later went to North Peel Secondary School. In his youth, Peter became one of the hip-hop fans, which later made him strongly connected to the DJ in the Toronto scene.
In 1989, Russell Peters began with his official career in Toronto. Later, he visited many other countries and performed there. He met an American comedian George Carlin who was one of his vast influencers and hosted one of his shows in 2007. His 2004 Canadian TV comedy show performance at Comedy Now! Went viral on Youtube and ended up to be his career’s turning point.
Peter also appeared on Top Gear America in the third episode of season 1 in 2017. He was one of the guests. Some of the other notable performances by Peter include him being the very first comedian who sell-out Toronto's Air Canada Centre (2007). He sold 16,000 above tickets in two days for only one show. On May 15th, 2010, Sydney’s show became the largest stand-up comedy show ever happened in Australia with 13, 880 audiences.
Peter was also the host of the Canada Day Comedy Festival 2006, participated in the USO tour of Iraq, Germany, Africa, Afghanistan, and Greenland. He also hosted the televised 2008 Juno Awards (Calgary) for which he earned the Gemini Award for "Best Performance or Host in a Variety Program or Series." “Outsourced” was the debut comedy album by him. He released a second DVD/CD combo, Red, White, and Brown in Canada (2008).
“Call Me Russell” was an autobiography written by Peter and his brother Clayton along with Dannis Koromilas. It was published on October 26, 2010. Peter has also appeared in a variety of films as an actor as well as a voice-over artist.
