Julius Dubose, known by his stage name A Boogie wit da Hoodie (though he prefers just A Boogie) is a singer, rapper, and songwriter originally from The Bronx, New York. He started singing at the age of 12 after listening to his childhood icon musicians, 50 Cent and Kanye West. He went full throttle on his singing as a freshman at the Eagle Academy during which he used to perform in cyphers during the lunchtime breaks. He rapped out of a huge notebook he carried with him to the school.
His stage name Boogie came about from his rapping after watching Paid in Full and people around him started calling him A Boogie (a character from the film). Then he had a habit of wearing hoodies, so A Boogie with da Hoodie came about.
A Boogie first popped up the music radar with his single Look Back At It, which rose to peak at No.17 on the Billboard Hot 100. His other popular single Drowning where he features Kodak Black peaked at No. 30.
One of his earliest releases, full-length mixtape project titled Artist released in February 2016, earned him a spot on Forbes list of up-and-coming rappers. He later released a collaborative project featuring Don Q titled Highbridge the Label: The Takeover Vol.1 in May 2016. He went on to have opening dates on Drake and Future’s Summer Sixteen Tour. Drake went further to co-sign him.
On September 29, 2017, he released his debut studio album, The Bigger Artist, which rose to No.4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Come December 21, 2018, he released a second album, Hoodie SZN which topped the charts on the Billboard 200 and made him secure sign up with Highbridge the Label and Atlantic Records.
