About Farm Aid

Farm Aid is a yearly concert in support of farmers in the United States. Bob Dylan spoke on the plight of American family farmers struggling with mortgage debt on the Live Aid concert stage on July 13, 1985, a benefit for victims of the 1983–1985 Ethiopian famine. The goal was to raise money and bring attention to their struggles. The first concert was held in Illinois and featured many notable music artists. Since then, Farm Aid has evolved into a major event that combines live music with a powerful message about supporting family-run farms and promoting healthy food. The Tweeter Center in Tinley Park, Illinois, hosted the 2005 Farm Aid concert, featuring festivities in Chicago to celebrate the organization's 20th anniversary. Allman Brothers, Counting Crows, John Mellencamp, and Willie Nelson were just some of the performers at the 2007 Farm Aid Concert, which took place on Randall's Island in New York City (the first Farm Aid in New York). They were shot in High Definition for transmission on HDNet as a 2-hour Special. Each year, the lineup features artists from various genres, including country, rock, folk, and others. Willie Nelson has played every year, and regular performers include Neil Young, Dave Matthews, and John Mellencamp. Over time, many others have joined in, including Chris Stapleton, Margo Price, and Sheryl Crow. Between sets, speakers talk about farming, food, and the environment. There are also booths with local food, farming groups, and hands-on activities. The festival has become more than just a concert. It is a day when people come together to support farmers and learn about the process of food production from the field to the table. In 2025, Farm Aid took place on April 26 at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. The lineup included Willie Nelson and Family, Neil Young, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, and Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. The crowd spent the day listening to live music, eating fresh local food, and supporting the cause. This year’s event raised money to help farmers deal with rising costs and climate challenges. Farm Aid continues to bring people together for great music and a strong mission that remains relevant today.

Essential Event-Day Checklist

Before You Leave

  • Digital Tickets: Download tickets to your phone's wallet now. Venue Wi-Fi is notoriously unreliable.
  • ID Check: Bring a valid photo ID; many venues require it for entry or "Will Call" pickup.
  • Bag Policy: Most venues enforce clear bag policies or limits (typically A4 size or smaller). Check the specific venue site to avoid being turned away.
  • Cash & Cards: While many venues are now cashless, bring some cash as a backup.

Pro-Tips

  • Power Up: Bring a portable power bank. Using your phone for video and ride-sharing will drain your battery fast.
  • Hearing Safety: Use high-fidelity earplugs to enjoy the event while protecting your hearing.
  • Hydration & Energy: Eat a full meal and stay hydrated beforehand.

Dress for Success

  • Footwear: Wear broken-in sneakers or boots. You could be standing for 3–5 hours; avoid new shoes.
  • Layer Up: Wear light layers (flannel or light jacket). Venues can range from chilly to very hot.
  • Style: Be yourself, but it always helps to have pockets or a small crossbody bag to keep essentials secure and hands-free.

Logistics & Safety

  • Arrive Early: Get there 60 minutes before doors to beat the merch and security lines.
  • Transport: Pre-book your ride share or scout parking garages in advance to avoid post-show surges.
  • Stay Safe: Identify your nearest exit upon arrival and designate a meeting spot for your group.
