Iron Maiden Information

Iron Maiden is one of heavy metal's most influential bands. It was founded in East London in 1975 by their lead bassist and songwriter, Steve Harris. In total, Iron Maiden has produced thirty-nine albums. Among these, nine are studio albums, twelve are live albums, four are extended plays, and seven are compilations. Iron Maiden is also known for its album artwork which set them apart.

As leaders of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden achieved initial success during the early 1980s. The band went on to release a series of the UK and US platinum and gold albums, including 1980's debut album, 1981's Killers, 1982's The Number of the Beast, 1984's Powerslave, 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, 1990s No Prayer for the Dying, and 1992's Fear of the Dark. In 1982 the band released its first album with Bruce Dickinson, who replaced Paul Di'Anno as lead singer. The album was The Number of the Beast. This album was a turning point in their career, establishing Iron Maiden as one of the most popular heavy metal artists in history.

By 2017, Iron Maiden sold over 100 million copies of their albums worldwide. Iron Maiden has become one of the most influential rock bands of all time. Many fans believe the band helped raise heavy metal into an art form.

Iron Maiden was inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk, Kerrang! Hall of Fame, and BPI Hall of Fame. The band was named the most successful British metal group on British Channel 4. In April 2021, the band's ex-members were inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame. The group is a part of a permanent exhibition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and British Music Experience.

Many songs are based on history, classic literature, and film. As of October 2019, the band has played some 2,500 live shows. For more than 40 years, the musicians have been supported by their mascot, "Eddie," with appearances on nearly all of their albums and single covers, videos, and merchandise. Derek Riggs originally designed Eddie.
