The Dallas Mavericks (also known as the Mavs) are one of the American National professional basketball teams based in Dallas, Texas. The team competes in the NBA (National Basketball Association) as a Western Conference Southwest Division member. The Mavs were founded in 1980 and began playing their home games at Reunion Arena. The team then shifted to American Airlines Center in 2001. The Mavs played their debut game against the Spurs, where they defeated the opponent with 103-92 records.
The Mavs selected navy blue, royal blue, silver, and black colors officially for their uniform theme. Champ and the Mavsman are the two official mascots for the Dallas Mavericks. Some well-known rivals of the Mavs are San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sacramento Kings.
The Mavs have sold out consecutively 707 games that are currently the longest selling out streak since December 15, 2002. They have won three Division titles, two Conference championships, and one NBA Championship. In their first playoff trip, the Mavs defeated the Seattle Supersonics in five games.
The Mavs hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 1986 at Reunion Arena. The 1986-87 season was one of the most successful seasons for the Mavs to date. They won their first Midwest Division title, going 55-27.
The Hall of Famers inductees by the Mavs includes Alex English, Steven Nash, Jason Kidd, Adrian Dantley, and Dennis Rodman. In the FIBA Hall of Famers, the team has inducted Antoine Rigaudeau. Some of the team players who have achieved individual awards are Dirt Nowitzki (NBA Most Valuable Player), Jason Kidd (NBA Sportsmanship Award), and many other players who have achieved different awards for their performances.
