The Detroit Red Wings are another professional ice hockey team based in Detroit. The team is a member of the NHL’s Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. It was known as Detroit Cougars from 1926-1930, Detroit Falcons from 1930-1932, and finally renamed to Detroit Red Wings, which is its current name from 1932-present. They play their home games at Little Caesars Arena , located in Midtown Detroit. They are famous for their white and red uniform theme.
The team was founded in 1926. In 1929, they made their first-ever Stanley Cup playoffs. The Red Wings played their first season at the Border Cities Arena in Windsor, Ontario. They made the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in their history; however, they got defeated by the Chicago Black Hawks. During the early 1940s, the team made three-times consecutively into the Stanley Cup Finals in 1941, 1942, and 1943. They lost the first two finals of 1941 and 1942, but in 1943, they finally swept Bruins and won the third Stanley Cup Finals.
The Detroit Red Wings has inducted many players (approx 63 players) as their Hall of Famers, including 11 builders of the sport. Some of the Hall of Fame players are Paul Coffey, Glenn Hall, Sid Abel, Marty Barry, Sergei Fedorov, Andy Bathgate, Leo Bolvin, Syd Howe, Mike Modano, and many other players. Some of the Hall of Fame builders are Tommy Ivan, Keith Allen, John Ziegler, and a few others. “AI the Octopus” is an official mascot of the Detroit Red Wings. For good luck, fans throw the octopuses on ice.
The Detroit Red Wings have won Stanley Cups 11 times, Presidents’ Trophy 6 times, Conference Championships 6 times, and Division Championships (NHL) 19 times. Some of the individual records made by the team individuals include; Most Goals in the Season by Steve Yzerman (1998-89) scored 65 goals; Most Win in a Season by Terry Sawchuk (1950-51 and 1951-52); a total number of wins is 44, and the team keeps many other individual records.
