The team competes in MLB (Major League Baseball) as a member of the American League (AL) Central Division. The team played its home games at Municipal Stadium from 1969-to 1972. Currently, the Royals play their home games at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals team was founded in 1969.
The Royals started with their inaugural game against Minnesota Twins on April 8, 1969. They defeated the Minnesota Twins by 4-3 in 12 innings. They are also called Boys in Blue and The Blue Crew as their nicknames. They are famous for their amazing uniform theme colors: Powder Blue, White, Gold, and Royal Blue. The most prominent rivals of the Royals are the intrastate St. Louis Cardinals. The true rivalry began between these two teams during the 1985 World Series, where the Royals defeated the Cardinals.
The official mascot for the Kansas City Royals is Slugger, who presents himself during the Royals game in a lion appearance. They have inducted many players into the Hall of Famers, including Amos Otis (1986), Cookie Rojas (1987), Hal McRae (1989), Larry Gura (1999), and John Mayberry (1996), Jeff Montgomery (2003), and several others.
