The Seattle Mariners are an American professional baseball team that is based in Seattle, Washington. The Mariners are a member club of the American League’s West Division and compete in Major League Baseball. The team was established in 1977 and is currently owned by the Baseball Club of Seattle, L.P. The Mariners play their home games at T-Mobile Park, located in the SoDo neighborhood.
The M’s played their first-ever game on April 6, 1977, against California Angels, which they lost to them with a 7-0 score. The team’s name is originated from the prominence of marine culture in Seattle. The team wears white jerseys and pants for most home games, while grey jerseys and pants are worn for games on the road. Other than these two, the Mariners also wear navy blue, teal, and silver colors on occasional games. Mariner Moose is the team’s mascot.
The Seattle Mariners have won three West Division Titles (1995-1997-2001) and a Wild card berth (2000). They won 116 games in 2001, which set the record for the most wins in a single season in American League records. The Mariners became the first team in Major League Baseball to have the privilege of involvement in a perfect game two times in one season.
The former C.E.O John Ellis announced the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame on June 14, 1997. Several players were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Ichiro Suzuki has the Highest Batting Average in the 2004 season (.372). Alex Rodriguez has the most of the runs scored in 1996 (142).
