Lionel Richie (June 20, 1949) is an American television personality, record producer, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. After being baptized into the Episcopal Church, Richie thought about studying religion to become a priest. But ultimately, he was not "priest material" and pursued music instead, despite his inability to read or write music. He is an active life member of Alpha Phi Alpha and a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honor society for band members.
