San Antonio Spurs Information

The San Antonio Spurs are a professional basketball team. Currently, the team is based in San Antonio, Texas. The former names of the team are Dallas Chaparrals and Texas Chaparrals. They are a member of the NBA’s Western Conference Southwest Division. Currently, the Spurs play their home games at the AT&T Center located in San Antonio.

The team started as the Dallas Chaparrals and became one of the 11 teams to take the floor of the upstart ABA in the inaugural season. The Spurs won 50 games in each season from 1999–2000 to 2016–17, setting a record of 18 consecutive 50-win seasons. On October 10, 1973, they played their first game at HemisFair Arena against San Diego Conquistadors in front of 5,879 people. For the first few seasons of the decade, the team continued its success in the 1970s with records of 52–30 in 1980–81, 53–29 in 1982–83, and 48–34 in 1981–82.

The San Antonio Spurs are famous for their black and silver uniforms. Since 1983, the Coyote has been the Spurs' official mascot. The Coyote is known for his rehearsed skits, slapstick humor, and previous dance numbers with the Silver Dancers.

The team has many players inducted into the basketball Hall Of Fame, including David Robinson, Fabricio Oberto, Andrew Gaze, Andrew Gaze, Dominique Wilkins, Artis Gilmore, Louie Dampier, Maurice Cheeks, George Gervin, Moses Malone, and Tracy McGrady.

Since 1923, the San Antonio Spurs have won 5 NBA championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014), 6 Conference titles, and 22 Division titles. George Gervin, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson have won the NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award. Another player Alvin Robertson won an award for NBA Most Improved Player.
