The Chicago Blackhawks are a professional hockey team in the National Hockey League with home ice located in Chicago, Illinois. The Blackhawks franchise plays its home games at the United Center in downtown Chicago. Up until 1986, they were the Black Hawks, and since then, many have shortened their name to the Hawks for ease. As one of the more successful franchises in the NHL, the United Center has a larger seating capacity than most other Hockey Arenas. The Chicago Blackhawks are known for their Red, Black, and White uniforms adorned with the Blackhawk Indian Head. Tommy Hawk is the mascot for the Blackhawks and drawn fire for his portrayal of Native Americans by many organizations.
Founded in 1926, the Chicago Blackhawks are one of the oldest NHL teams. Throughout their history, the Blackhawks have been fortunate to have many Hall of Fame players, including Denis Savard, Bobby Hull, Jeremy Roenick, Chris Chelios, Ed Belfour, and many more. The Blackhawks play in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. And within the Western Conference, they are in the Central Division with their arch-nemesis Detroit Red Wings, as well as the St Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche, and the Winnipeg Jets. The Central Division is one of the most competitive in the NHL even though the Detroit Red Wings have dominated the overall league many teams have experienced success.
The Blackhawks have enjoyed much success and have Four Western Conference Championships 1991-92, 2009-10, 2012-13, 2014-15. The Blackhawks also have Six Stanley Cups in years 1933-34, 1937-38, 1960-61, 2009-10, 2012-13, and most recently 2014-15. Not many organizations have experienced this much success, and it looks as though the current owner of the Blackhawks will continue to expect success.
